Police Identify Man Killed in Marshfield Accident
Paul Gendreau, 46, of Marshfield has been identified as the victim who died in a head-on crash with a fuel truck on Saturday in Marshfield. The Patriot Ledger reports that Gendreau's sedan collided with the truck on Plaint Street Saturday around 6:00pm. The driver of the fuel truck sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash and has not yet been identified.
Preliminary reports indicate that Gendreau's sedan crossed over the double yellow lines and crashed head-on with the fuel truck. There were no passengers in either vehicle and no other vehicles were involved in the tragic accident. Officials are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the crash.
How Head-On Collisions Occur
The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials report that a head-on crash can result from either a driver's unintentional or intentional actions. As an example, an intentional action would be a driver speeding up and trying to pass the vehicle that is in front of him, then making impact with an oncoming car in the opposite lane of travel. An unintentional action would be an operator falling asleep at the wheel or getting distracted by a cell phone, then drifting into the oncoming traffic lane into another vehicle. Contributing factors also may be present in head-on crashes, such as drunk driving or speeding. The majority of head-on accidents stem from the unintentional actions of a driver.
