Sexual Assault at Sea: Is Cruise Ship Travel Safe? (Part A)
So you are thinking of taking a vacation on a cruise ship. There are so many choices depending on where you want to go and what you want to do and see. Cruise passengers have a lot to consider when choosing their cruise line including: price, customer service, and company reputation. But a critical decision of any cruise vacation plan should be the cruise line’s record of travel safety.
Some cruise lines and locations have better records than others. A wise traveler would do well to conduct research prior to selecting a destination and a cruise company.

Most of the incidents listed above have occurred more than once during the past five months alone. Some reports indicate that several cruise line companies (even when they experienced a major illness aboard ship) only hastily scrub down the cruise ship for the next load of passengers. This lack of attention to cleanliness can easily result in another bout of cruise passenger illnesses.
Although there is no one entity that illness, injuries, and/or deaths are reported to by cruise lines, there are some ways to gather some of the information. Cruise Junkie, for example provides a list of cruise ship sexual assault reports for the cruise line, Royal Caribbean International. They indicate the data was gathered in the discovery phase of lawsuits.
