Drowning: Swimming Pool Accidents (Part B)
Child swimming pool accidents are common, but there are also many adult drowning victims.
Swimming Pool Accident Victims
- An Arlington woman, 70-years-old, was found drowned in her backyard pool on Sunday, July 12, 2009. The coroner has ruled the death accidental.
- That same weekend, a 4-year-old boy drowned in a pool in Las Vegas. He was at a pool party at an apartment complex with other children and adults. This is the seventh pool drowning in Las Vegas this year.
- On July 13, 2009 a 25-year-old Chester Springs, Pennsylvania man died in a community swimming pool accident. Lifeguards found him and CPR was performed but was ultimately unsuccessful. Although the autopsy has not been completed, police are treating the swimming pool death as an accident.
There is no shortage of stories where children as well as adults have either been injured or died due to a swimming pool accident. Pool drowning incidents can happen in a split second, even when parents or other adults are nearby.
Always Practice Pool Safety
On a sunny summer day you might be spending time at the pool, having fun, socializing, and looking over every once in awhile to check on the kids. Experts would agree that young children require more than casual supervision while swimming.
If you have a small child, actively participate in the swimming with them and practice pool safety.
Additionally, inspect the pool for anything that might cause injury. Sharp objects, open pump covers, and other slippery surfaces can all harm your child.
