Toyota Acceleration Problems Blamed on Drivers
Recent NHTSA and NASA Reports
After 10 months of investigating, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have released their findings on what was behind the inadvertent acceleration problems that drivers were experiencing with their Toyota vehicles.
Reasons for Toyota Accidents According to the Report
The report doesn't look good for those drivers, especially if any were still planning on filing a lawsuit after a recalled Toyota accident because "driver error" was cited in the majority of these instances involving Toyota cars.
Two other reasons were named in the report by NHTSA and NASA and they were accelerator pedals that stuck and floor mats that kept the accelerator pressed down. There were recalls for both of those acceleration issues with the 2010 Toyota recall. However, officials have determined that drivers simply thought that they were hitting the brake pedal when in fact they had pressed down on the accelerator instead. NHTSA officials have dubbed this "pedal misapplication."
All in all, Toyotas have been given the green light and are now deemed safe once again for driving. The report will also potentially help Toyota overcome the towering number of lawsuits that have been filed in response to an accident involving a recalled Toyota.
