1 Million Infantino Baby Slings Recalled Due to Risk of Suffocation
March 26, 2010 – Washington, D.C. – - Two different models of Infantino baby slings have been recalled for critical safety reasons.
According to WeAreCentralPA.com, more than 1 million Wendy Bellissimo and Sling Rider slings, both manufactured by Infantino, have been recalled in the United States. An additional 500,000 slings have been recalled in Canada. The recalled slings pose a risk of suffocation for infants.
Infantino, a San-Diego-based-company, is recalling the baby slings amid reports of the suffocation deaths of 3 infants in 2009 as a result of the faulty slings.
If you own a recalled sling, you are instructed to immediately cease use and cut the product label from the strap and mail it to Infantino. The company has said it will issue a safe replacement product.
The sling recall is particularly troubling, as slings are not typically considered a high-risk baby product, as they ensure that parent and infant are in close contact. However, the design of the recalled Infantino slings is such that infants can easily suffocate, rendering the product unusable and potentially deadly.
