81-year-old Retired Professor Cited for Motor Vehicle Homicide
We learned of an update yesterday from a news story that made headlines over this past summer.
On July 8, 81-year-old Detley Vagts struck and killed 54-year-old Marcia Kearney with his car while Kearney was riding her Vespa scooter. Kearney, of Northampton, died following the collision due to injuries that she sustained.
The new piece of information is that Vagts has now been cited for motor vehicle homicide by the Middlesex District Attorney, with a court date soon to be set. Prosecutors for the case allege that Vagts’ car was over the double yellow line and into the oncoming lane of traffic when he hit Kearney, throwing her over 80 feet.
Vagts, of Cambridge, is now a retired Harvard Law School professor after teaching there for over 40 years.
