At Least 24 Children Injured Because of Recalled Graco High Chairs
March 19, 2010 – Washington, D.C. – On the heels of a stroller recall in both September 2009 and January 2010, Graco is recalling more than 1 million high chairs because of safety concerns with the product.
The Christian Science Monitor reports that Graco’s Harmony high chair is being recalled because there is a risk of it toppling over, which could lead to serious child injuries and even death.
The Graco recall includes about 1.2 million high chairs. The safety issue lies with the screws on the chair’s front legs, which can easily come loose. In addition, the plastic bracket on the rear legs can crack and either problem can result in the chair toppling over.
About 24 child injuries have been reported so far, with injuries ranging from head injuries to bone fractures and cuts and bruises to the body.
The recalled high chairs were sold between Dec. 2003 and March 2010 at Sears, Toys “R” Us, Walmart, and Target, among others. There are numerous models included in the recall. If you do have a recalled high chair, immediately cease use and call Graco at 1-877-842-3206 to request a repair kit. The high chair should not be used until it is fixed.
Graco recalled 1.5 million strollers in January.
