Disney Recalls Handy Manny Toy Tool Sets
A voluntary recall was recently announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in cooperation with the Disney Store USA LLC of Pasadena, California. Approximately 20,000 Playhouse Disney “Handy Manny” toy tool sets are being included in the nationwide recall.
The recall comes after a hazard was identified. The tools on the toy set have eyes that can separate, posing a choking hazard to young children. At the time of the recall announcement, Disney had received three reports of eyes detaching from the toy. Two of those reports included children who started to choke on the pieces. However, no injuries were reported.
The toy being recalled is the Playhouse Disney “Handy Manny” tool set, which is a plastic, eight-piece toy that includes a tool box, hammer, saw, pliers, wrench, tape measure and two screwdrivers. “Handy Manny” is embossed on one side of the plastic tool box. The UPC number can be found on the product’s packaging. The recall includes UPC #s 405144100614 and 422147400633.
This toy tool set was sold at the Disney Store across the country from October 2007 through January 2009 for approximately $15.
The CPSC has urged parents to take the recalled toy tool set away from children and return it to any Disney Store for a full refund.
Additional information is available for consumers by calling the Disney Store at 866-902-2798 between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM PST Monday through Friday or by visiting www.DisneyStore.com.
