Elderly Clerk Killed in Roxbury Convenience Store Robbery
February 22, 2010 – Roxbury, Mass. – An elderly man was fatally shot during a convenience story robbery on Saturday morning in Roxbury, Mass.
The Boston Herald reports that a 71-year-old employee of Hermanos Unidos was stocking shelves when 2 unidentified assailants pushed him to the front of the store, demanding that he empty the cash register. The suspects also demanded the money from his wallet. When they did not get what they wanted, they fatally shot the robbery victim.
The elderly victim left behind a widow and several family members who have expressed their devastation at the man’s tragic, wrongful death. Police have not yet released the name of the shooting victim.
There was no surveillance camera in the store, but according to witnesses, one robber was wearing all black. The other wore a red hoodie.
This case comes on the heels of a similar event in December, in which a Nepalese immigrant was fatally shot after handing over money to robbers at a grocery store.
Authorities say there has been an increase of store robberies in the area and have urged store owners to install video cameras and other precautionary measures as a means to deter crime. It is critical that store employees are provided with adequate means of protection in the event that a crime should occur during their employment.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the shooting victim for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Our heart goes out to everybody who knew and loved the deceased victim. Please keep them in your prayers.
We understand that the Roxbury Police Department is investigating the shooting death and robbery. However, even while the police are investigating Saturday’s robbery, we suggest that those impacted consider consulting a Massachusetts personal injury lawyer to file a wrongful death lawsuit.
