Stratham Propane Gas Explosion Kills Woman

A propane gas explosion at Cortland Avenue in Stratham, NH, on Wednesday resulted in a fire that killed one 56-year-old woman.

According to the authorities, an initial investigation of the fire scene showed that propane ignited in the home at 16-18 Cortland Avenue in Stratham before an intense fire consumed the duplex (a 2-story building located in the Sewall Farms condominiums development).

Police said that the victim, a local real estate broker, Lori Breard, died as a result of the 3-alarm fire.

Breard was first taken to Exeter Hospital, then transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where she died on Wednesday morning as a result of serious injuries suffered in the blaze.

More that 70-100 firefighters from surrounding towns responded to the fire, which even melted the siding on homes across the street from the inflamed residence.

Investigators are looking for a possible propane leak inside the home that may have caused the explosion.
