Massachusetts Motorcycle Accident Claims Two Lives

Posted on Aug 25, 2009

A woman who was injured in a Massachusetts motorcycle accident last week, has died.

Alycia Gavin, a 20-year-old Derry resident, was riding on a motorcycle driven by 22-year-old Robert Litchfield, when it crashed into a minivan on Route 125.  The fatal motorcycle crash took place on August 15th.  Litchfield died at the accident scene.

Before the accident, Kingston police had briefly pursued Litchfield after an officer noticed him speeding.  His speed was estimated at 100 MPH.  The officer radioed Rockingham County dispatch so that the Plaistow police would be on the lookout for Litchfield.

A Plaistow patrol officer saw him speeding on Route 125.  When the officer turned around to pursue Litchfield, the motorcycle crossed into the northbound lane of Route 125 and hit a minivan that was turning into the Petro King gas station on Plaistow Road.

It is unclear if the officer even had time to turn on his cruiser lights before the accident.

Litchfield and Gavin were ejected from the motorcycle.  Gavin was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital where she died six days later.  A fund has been set up at TD Banknorth to help Gavin’s family with mounting expenses.
