Our eighteen-year-old client was driving on an interstate into
the early morning sun. As he drove over a rise in the road,
he struck a car that was disabled and stopped in the middle
of the road because a 150-pound wheel and tire detached from
a tractor-trailer rig traveling in the opposite direction.
The lugs holding the tire had broken off, causing the tire
and wheel to travel across the median strip, and hit and
disable the stopped vehicle.
Awarded: $ 3.5 million
Our client an 86 year-old woman sustained an injury
after being struck by a bus. The inattentive bus driver
was warned by a passenger that the woman was crossing
in front of the bus but could not stop in time to avoid impact.
Awarded: $1,000,000

fractures and soft tissue injury.

February 5, 2010 - Cambridge, Mass. - A recent study has indicated that babies who succumb to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS, tend to possess a serotonin deficiency, affecting several of their body's responses.
According to Medscape, low levels of serotonin may affect an infant's responses to blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, carbon dioxide, and breathing. If the affected infant lies face down, the risk is high that he or she will repeatedly inhale and exhale the carbon dioxide.
Infants that are most at risk for SIDS are those who have a low level of serotonin, sleep face down, and are still within the first year of life, which is a significant period of child development.
These findings were discovered by researchers at the Children's Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School in Massachusetts. In the study, about 88% of SIDS cases involved at least 2 major risk factors, such as heavy exposure to cigarette smoke or recent illness.
Current research and child safety standards say that one of the greatest ways to decrease the risk of SIDS is to place the baby on his back instead of stomach. While we are grateful to the Massachusetts researchers who have devoted so much time to protecting children, we understand that for families already affected by SIDS, the research comes too late.
