Mayor Involved in Massachusetts Car Crash

Posted on Jun 08, 2009

Fall River Mayor Robert Correia crashed into the path of an oncoming vehicle during his tour of the city with Massachusetts’ top transportation official.  Mayor Correia apparently ran a stop sign and was cited by police for failing to stop.  He was issued a ticket for $100.

At the time of the Massachusetts car crash, Mayor Correia was driving state Secretary of Transportation James A. Aloisi Jr., state Senator Joan Menard and Rep. Michael Rodrigues in his 2003 Lexus.  They were on their way to meet a news reporter when the accident took place.

Their vehicle collided with a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Kyra Cabral.  The Nissan hit the driver’s side of the Lexus.

According to Cabral, she and her passenger were heading northbound on Davol Street when Mayor Correia ran a stop sign.  Cabral informed police that she was not able to stop in time and the two vehicles collided.  However, the mayor told police that he had stopped and was slowly moving forward to make a turn.  Mayor Correia’s spokeswoman said that he did not see the other car.

No one was injured in the auto accident in Fall River.
