More Recalls Because of Honda Airbag Issue
February 11, 2010 – Boston, Mass. – In light of the recent Toyota recalls, Honda has voluntarily recalled an additional 378,758 vehicles because of a possible airbag issue.
The Boston Herald reports that the Honda recall now includes 826, 424 vehicles. All were recalled because of a potentially deadly issue with the driver's side airbag. There have been reports that the Honda passenger airbags may inflate too harshly in an accident. This excessive force can cause the inflator casing to rupture, which can lead to serious accident injuries, or even death.
The expanded list of recalled Hondas includes:
- 2001 and 2002 Honda Accords
- Odyssey CRV
- Honda Civic
- Some Acura TLs made in 2002
There have been 12 car accidents and one death connected with the Honda airbag issue.
Honda in America's executive vice president, John Mendel, is now letting the Japanese government know about the decision to expand the product recall. The company has already informed the NHTSA about the recent verdict.
This is not Honda's first recall in connection with the airbag issue. The first recall for nearly 4,000 2001 Civics and Accords was issued in November 2008 after Honda received 3 complaints in 2007. After 5 more complaints in 2009, the car manufacturer expanded the recall to include 440,000 affected vehicles.
If you are the owner of a recalled vehicle, keep an eye out in the coming weeks for a recall notification from Honda. If you receive notification, it is advised that you take your vehicle immediately to the nearest dealership to address this potentially life-threatening airbag issue.
If you've been seriously injured in a car accident in your recalled Honda, and you or a passenger suffered serious injuries because of a faulty passenger side airbag, you may be entitled to damages in a personal injury lawsuit.
