Recall: Bike Brakes May “Crack”
Last week, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled Revl carbon brakes for bicycles due to concerns over the brakes cracking over time and causing the brakes to potentially fail and the rider to fall or to crash as a result. The recall is a precautionary measure, as there have not been any reported injuries to date.
The company that sells these carbon brakes is The Hive and it is based in Petaluma, California, while the product is manufactured in Taiwan. There are about 500 brakes total that are included in this recall, and they include black brakes with the following date codes printed on the brake arms: 41B, 44B, 45B, 53B, 13C, 16C. “Revl” is also printed on the brake.
The brakes were sold at specialty bicycle stores across the United States beginning in September 2009 through August of this year, costing approximately $400 for each set of brakes.
If your brakes are part of this recall, stop riding your bike immediately and contact The Hive to get your replacement parts or you can choose to bring your bike to their retailer for a free repair.
