Recalls for October: Strollers, Pans, and Fire Alarms
Earlier this month, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced several voluntary recalls with a number of various companies for products that needed to be adjusted and repaired due to serious safety concerns the products posed to consumers.
Approximately 800 Tike Tech Single City X3 and X3 Sport Jogging Strollers have been recalled over entrapment and strangulation concerns by the CPSC and Tike Tech Ltd. based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The concerns stem from the possibility that an infant passenger could become trapped between the “grab bar” and the seat itself. This could pose a strangulation hazard if the baby or toddler were not secured properly in the stroller. There are no reported injuries. As a precaution, if you own either of these strollers, you should immediately remove the “grab bar” from the stroller to remove the risk of strangulation and then contact Tike Tech for your free replacement bar.
Another company’s strollers are being recalled for entrapment and strangulation risks as well. Around 12,000 Valco Baby Tri Mode Single and Twin Jogging Strollers are affected by this recall by the CPSC and Valco Baby out of Brooklyn, New York. The hazard is similar to the Tike Tech Stroller recall, in that an infant can potentially move (if not properly secured in her seat) to become stuck at the neck of the “grab bar,” which could lead to strangulation. No injuries have been reported to date. If you have either of these jogging strollers, you are advised to promptly remove the grab bar from the stroller and to then contact Valco Baby in order to get your free replacement bar.
A third recall out earlier this month concerns Castalon Frying Pans sold by Tabletops Unlimited, Inc. based out of Carson, California. There are approximately 1,500 pans affected by this recall over concerns that the pan’s coating can crackle and then flake off following a few uses. This poses a potential burn risk for consumers who have these pans. There has been one reported burn injury from a consumer. The pan comes in a wide range of colors and model numbers. If you have one of the recalled pans, it is recommended that you immediately stop using it and to contact Tabletops Unlimited for returning the pan and getting your full refund.
Lastly, the CPSC has also recalled around 530 Fire Alarm Control Panels made by Fire-Lite Alarms of Northford, Connecticut. The panels need to have a software upgrade installed because the current panels may fail to sound the alarm if there was a fire. To date, there have not been any reported injuries. Businesses are urged to contact Fire-Lite Alarms for the free software upgrade, while Fire-Lite Alarms is contacting its own customers.
