A 15-year-old girl was killed in a pedestrian accident in Marblehead, as she crossed a local street. Investigators have been working on gathering evidence to determine what caused this fatal Massachusetts accident.
Alessandra “Allie” Castner was hit at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Mohawk Road at approximately 6:55 PM on Monday, August 24, 2009. She was eventually flown to Boston Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The vehicle involved in the accident was impounded, which was a late model four-door Volvo sedan.
The driver of the Volvo has been cooperating with police. Investigators are looking at many things, including the driver’s cell phone records. The driver’s name has not been released because he has yet to be cited in the accident.
Massachusetts does not have a law banning the use of cell phones while driving. However, legislators have pushed for such a ban and a limit on cell phones, but nothing has passed.
Authorities would not comment on the details of the case and released a statement outlining the accident. The statement said that Alessandra was taken to North Shore Medical Center in Salem and then flown by helicopter to Boston Medical Center.
Martha Castner, Alessandra’s grandmother, described the girl by saying, “she was so vibrant and loved having people around her. She usually had a house load of friends.”
