Our eighteen-year-old client was driving on an interstate into
the early morning sun. As he drove over a rise in the road,
he struck a car that was disabled and stopped in the middle
of the road because a 150-pound wheel and tire detached from
a tractor-trailer rig traveling in the opposite direction.
The lugs holding the tire had broken off, causing the tire
and wheel to travel across the median strip, and hit and
disable the stopped vehicle.

Jack Daniels, a 61-year-old man from Canton, was reported as being in fair condition at Massachusetts General Hospital after he was clipped by an Acela Amtrak train. The speeding train clipped the back part of Daniels’ body while he was attempting to cross the railroad tracks at Canton Junction on Thanksgiving morning. Reports show that the train was traveling at a speed of 90 miles per hour, northbound, from New York to Boston.
“It skimmed him, and took part of his back side off, from what I saw. His clothes were ripped off,” said John O’Brien, who arrived at the scene of the accident just seconds after it occurred.
O’Brien also said that Daniels was conscious when he first saw him after the accident. Daniels was looking for his teeth that had been knocked out of his mouth during the accident. “He was still standing, and he was in shock. People were talking to him, and he was trying to talk to them,” said O’Brien.
Other witnesses said that Daniels had just crossed the railroad tracks and had one leg up to get on the track platform. The Amtrak train clipped him while he was trying to get onto the station’s platform.
Rescue workers from the Canton fire station were at the accident scene in minutes, said O’Brien, and they started to treat Daniels and wrapping him up. Daniels was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment for his injuries.
The train accident is being investigated by transit police. According to local police, Daniels was reportedly on his way to Honey Dew Donuts when he was hit by the train.
Transit Police Sgt. Preston Horton told WCVB news that the area where the accident took place has fences, signs and large yellow lines to alert people that it is a danger area. However, despite all of those warnings, people still trespass.
