Our eighteen-year-old client was driving on an interstate into
the early morning sun. As he drove over a rise in the road,
he struck a car that was disabled and stopped in the middle
of the road because a 150-pound wheel and tire detached from
a tractor-trailer rig traveling in the opposite direction.
The lugs holding the tire had broken off, causing the tire
and wheel to travel across the median strip, and hit and
disable the stopped vehicle.

On the morning of Friday, November 14, 2008, two Green Line trolleys collided in the Boylston T station, which injured seven people. The victims were taken to local hospitals with reports of neck and back pain, according to an MBTA spokesman.
The accident occurred when one trolley bumped the back of a second trolley as it pulled up to the Boylston platform. There was no damage or derailment of the trains, but the two trolleys did hitch together. It is estimated that there were about 500 passengers on the two trains.
Eric Chen, a Northeastern student on his way to work at Government Center was quoted as saying, “All of a sudden, the train just shook. A couple people spilled their coffee, and my friend hit her head.”
Both trolley conductors were injured in the accident. The seven people injured were transported to New England Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Medical Center.
During the hour and 45 minutes following the collision, passengers were bused between stations at Arlington and Government Center. Trolley service resumed on the Green Line, just before 10:30 AM.
Investigators are trying to determine what caused the two trolleys to collide, by examining the tracks, signals, trolley equipment and the operators’ actions. According to MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo, they are looking at everything.
Chen said that the trolley he was riding in sat idle just before the Boylston T station for approximately ten minutes. The passengers were finally able to exit the trolley and had to walk through the subway tunnel to reach the Boylston station.
It did not appear that there were any serious injuries in Chen’s trolley, but there were ambulances outside the station and Chen saw stretchers.
